| The relations of those who died in LTTE
bomb attacks met on 5th April 2009 at the Kirulapone Bodhi Buddhist
Centre Temple . Religious observances to those present were conducted
by Ven. Vitharandeniye Nanda Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Bodhi Buddhist
Centre. Thereupon Mr. Lionel Munasinghe, retired Inspector of Police,
requested Ven. Nanda Thero to deliver the welcome address. |

Ven. Nanda
Thero in his welcome address, expressed his views stating that this
meeting to gather together relations of Sri Lankans killed by terrorists
is a timely venture, that it is evident at this moment when terrorist
activities raging for more than thirty years (three decades) are brought
to an end, the entire nation should acclaim the clear leadership of
the President, the counseling of Defense Secretary and the military
prowess of the Army Commander . |
| The role played by the three armed forces and the police
too should be appreciated.He further stressed that it is the Tamil
population who are more pressurized than the Sinhalese and that he
is happy to find relations of all those killed by terrorist actions
united here to form a society regardless of caste, creed or racial
differences. He said this society has no affiliation to any political
party, that all necessary guidance and counseling could be extended
by him. Assistance and cooperation in this regard could be sought
from H. E., the President. Ven. Nanda Thero also thanked retired Inspector
of Police, Mr. Lionel Munasinghe and Mr. Dimuth Gunawardena for their
initiative in organizing this event. |
| Retired Inspector of Police,
Mr. Lionel Munasinghe expressing his views stated that he was keen
to establish this society. The reason for this get-together of all
families and to collect information of all terrorist assassinate is
because the government has extended relief to a great extent to personnel
of the three armed forces and the police who have laid their lives
(in action). |

| It is with the intention
of finding some relief to the relations who are living under dire
circumstances as a result of the civilians who have been killed .Ms.
Jeyaraj Fernandopulle and Ms. Marathon Karunaratna who were expected
to ( be present at) attend this inaugural meeting have informed that
the alms - giving is being held today of those killed by the bomb
blast on that day . Thereupon Ven. Nanda Thero invited those present
to air their views and Mr. W. G. Chularatna observed thus. |

Ven. Thero then informed members present
that the society needed office bearers and to appoint a secretary
first. Mr. Sarath Hallalla proposed Mr. W. G. Chularatna as the Hon.
Secretary and as there were no other names put forward it was seconded
by Mr. Rajaratnam Rashedaran and was ratified . Next, Ms. Padmini
Manamudali proposed Mr. Sarath Hallalla as Hon. President, and was
seconded by Ms. Asoka Thevarapperuma. Ms. Tamara Edirisinghe proposed
Mr . Rajaratnam Rashidharan as Vice- President and was seconded by
Ms. Shirani Sakuntala. |
| Ms. Padmini Manamudali proposed Ms. Asoka Thevarapperuma
to the post of Assistant Secretary and was seconded by Ms. Tamara
Edirisinghe and was elected. The name of Mr. Lahiru Madhusanha to
the post of Treasurer of this society was proposed by Ms. Shirani
Sakuntala and seconded by Mr. Rashidharan. The members were then informed
to nominate 5 members to the Executive Committee. The names of following
ladies and gentlemen, namely, Mss. Manamudali, Tamara Edirisinghe
, Sriyani Sakuntala and Messrs. Gayan Prasad, Wijeyan Rajaratnam were
proposed by Ms. Padmini Thevarapperuma and seconded by Mr. K. Wijeratna
and were elected.
Ven. Vitharandeniye Nanda Thero, Chief Incumbent of Kirulapone
Bodhi Buddhist Centre was elected Patron of this society and Messrs.
Dimuth Gunawardena and Col. Amarasekera were elected as advisors
proposed by Mr. Sarath Hallalla and seconded by Mr. Sugathapala
Perera.
Ven Nanda Thero next observed that Kirulapona Bodhi Buddhist Centre
can be used as the head office of the society and as it is necessary
to expand this society to international level, to propose a name
for the society. It was unanimously decided to discuss and propose
a name later. Mr. Dimuth Gunawardena informed the meeting that he
would put a paper advertisement requesting all families in Sri Lanka
that have undergone tragic trauma through terrorist action to become
members of this society.
Then the Hon. Secretary thanked Ven. Nanda Thero, Mr. Lionel Munasinghe
and Mr. Dimuth Gunawardena who initiated the founding of this society,
and all others who gathered here from all parts of the island to
make this meeting a success, after which the meeting was concluded.
